Job Description

A Coax Construction & Splice Technician is responsible for the construction and splicing of coax and fiber plant, both aerial and underground.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Terminate cable utilizing a variety of connectors

  • Install, repair and test coax cable in a variety of environments (underground, indoor, aerial)

  • Testing, tuning and balancing equipment in order to troubleshoot a service line.

  • Repair or splice in new line as needed to complete the testing and certification of the project.

  • Place and install required coax cable when necessary to complete assignment.

  • Install all passive and active devices, pedestals, and vaults and coax splice cases required to house CATV equipment per customer requirements.

  • Perform testing Signal Level meter 

  • Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job sitemaps

  • Understanding basic and complex coax design maps, familiarity with different types of line equipment such as amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters and associated hardware, as well as various types of coax connectors and their usage

  • Test Coax – RF lines for balanced signal between points – continuity and fault

  • Troubleshooting and repair of Coax line and line equipment

  • Read and understand site plans, maps and diagrams needed to support project.

Job Requirements




  1. Education and/or Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in cable construction and/or

engineering experience with a thorough understanding of all aspects relative to HFC




  • Minimum of 2-4 years of splicing experience in telecommunications or utility industry

  • Proven ability to understand and follow directions

Technical Skills

  • Preferred: 1-2 years of OSP telecommunication construction experience; cable experience

  • Preferred: 1-2 years of experienced in splicing, balancing, and documenting CATV systems

  • Proficient knowledge operating ariel lifts, ladders, ability to climb poles

  • Demonstrated expertise in construction skills, including underground and aerial telecommunication construction techniques, fiber splicing techniques, emergency restoration practices, and general industry knowledge

  • Job related certifications such as safety, coax training and experience with various manufacturers

  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency

Soft Skills:


  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to motivate, lead, teach and train on proper work and safety procedures

Physical Requirements:          

  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 75 lbs

  • Travel to work sites 75-80% of the time

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing

  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed.

  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather

  • Must possess valid driver’s license
